[NOVEL REVIEW] Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Sea of Monsters

"If there's one thing I've learned over the eons, it's that you can't give up on your family. No matter how tempting they make it." - Hermes

Since the very first time I read this novel, I know the story-line is really something. In the second book, we will enjoy another voyage of Percy, Grover, and Annabeth in the second novel of Percy Jackson & The Olympians series: Sea of Monsters. This book chronicles the adventures of those three kids who have become best-friends to rescue Grover form the Cyclops, Polyphemus and save the camp from a Titan’s attack by bringing the Golden Fleece to cure Thalia’s poisoned pine tree.

We are introduced to some new characters in this novel. The story begins by an attack of Laestrygonians at Percy’s school in which he was saved by Tyson- Percy’s step brother (Cyclops disguised as a human). Annabeth and Percy then returned to Camp Half-Blood where they found that Thalia's tree has been poisoned, leaving the camp vulnerable to enemy attacks and Chiron (head of the Camp) is suspected of poisoning it.

Battle with Hydra

Clarisse- a daughter of Ares (god of war) is appointed to led the mission. The prophecy given by the oracle to Clarisse reads:

You shall sail the iron ship with warriors of bone,
You shall find what you seek and make it your own,
But despair for your life entombed within stone
And fail without friends, to fly home alone.

However, due to his continuous nightmare, Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson escaped from the camp to release Grover. During his venture, Percy and Annabeth were captured by Luke Castellan and his colony and ended up drifting ashore in a ship named Princess Andromeda. Luke has affirmed his position in siding to Kronos and Percy’s life is in danger.
Will Percy be able to survive? What has Kronos done to Luke? How the Camp Half-Blood is doing?

After reading this second novel, a sort of anger rose up in me looking at how Luke betrayed his companion and turned into such a beast. I can sense that the story’s tone is getting darker ever since Kronos- the prime antagonist cast has risen. Secrets are started to spring forming a puzzle in readers’ mind.

The scene of fight with Hydra is spotting the highlight of this novel, in my opinion. The author really knows how to draft strained moment. Each book of this series makes me longing to read it non-stop as I even postpone my meals.
Have your imagination travelled in Percy’s adventure as well by downloading it here :)
